Decarbonization, Regeneration, and Circularity in the Built Environment: Allies on the Sustainability Journey

According to the Global Status Report 2017 the building and construction sector accounts for 36% of global final energy use and 39% of energy-related carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions when upstream power generation is included. The World Green Building Council has set targets of 40% less embodied carbon emissions by 2030 and 100% net zero emissions buildings by 2050.

The synergy of decarbonization, regeneration and circularity applied to the built environment poses significant opportunities for brands to accelerate their own sustainability commitments. The mounting pressures of ambitious, enterprise-level sustainability directives will require innovative breakthroughs. Design thinking will play a critical role in generating new business models and value propositions.

This presentation will provide the audience with an understanding of:

Principles of decarbonization, regeneration and circularity;

Value-cycle thinking that redefines life-cycle analysis of building performance;

Trends in carbon transparency, chain-of-custody sourcing and materials upcycling;

Integrating renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and resilience.
